Makeup for the gym? Hot or not?

Makeup for the gym? Yeah or neah? This is the question that many of us ask ourselves. Discover the risks that we put our skin in when we do sports wearing makeup.  Vain people everywhere, we get you. We like to be beautiful in any situation and all of the time, even when we’re doing sport, because you never know what might happen ; ) And there are some days when we go straight to the gym from work or a social gathering and we end up training (and sweating) with our makeup on. To understand what can happen to our skin when we do, first we need to know what’s happening when we sweat: Sweat is the body’s cooling mechanism used to maintain optimum temperature when an increase is noted, which is what happens when we do physical activity. Our pores become dilated and help to eliminate toxins, water and minerals. If your skin is covered in makeup or the day’s accumulated dirt, your pores will dilate to sweat and when they close will seal in a layer of bacteria, which can generate an appearance of blackheads, spots and irritative dermatitis. This is why experts recommend doing sport with a clean face and washing with a product that won’t irritate your skin (like a gentle soap or micellar water). The best advice is to do sport without makeup, but if you do want to wear makeup to look your best for the gym, then shy away from products that might impede sweating and go instead for light mineral-based or translucent makeup which will hide imperfections but without obstructing your pores. You can also use waterproof eyeliner and mascara which will be more resistant to sweat. Remember that when you do outdoor sports you should also, always, use sun protection! Once your session has finished it’s important to use a moisturizing cream that allows you to keep your skin as hydrated as possible. It’s also important to drink plenty of water to restore any liquids lost during exercise and use a hydrating facial mask once a week.
