French Crop: the 90s trend for men that’s back on the scene

Fashion is cyclic. Everything that was once a trend ends up coming back around and stronger than ever. This is the case of the haircut for men that became popular in the 90s and we’re now seeing everywhere once again, the French Crop. It’s a classic cut with a fresh new feel. The classics always come back. The French Crop definitely has a chance to become one of the top looks for men this season. Want to know what it’s all about? Popularly known as the “Cesar style”, it takes its inspiration from the hairstyles sported by the Roman Emperors. In the 90s it became very popular thanks to its most famous fans, George Clooney and Antonio Banderas.

What is the French Crop all about?

It’s a very versatile classic that’s revolutionizing modern cuts. The lower side and back areas are cropped really short, and the top is left longer and combed forward over the forehead or to one side, depending on how long the hair is. A razor is used to crop the shortest sections and the longer areas are always worked using scissors to leave them at a length to suit the customer. However, unlike the 90s fashion, this time round the aim is to create a sharper contrast between the upper and lower sections, leaving the lower section shorter than the original style.

One of the big advantages of this cut is that it suits all types of face shapes, ages and styles. Whether your hair is curly, straight, thin or thick it can still look good on you, you just have to play around with the upper section. The beard and hair wax from the updated homme range will be ideal to shape your hair, whether you wear it to one side or to the front. Its aqueous base and creamy texture makes it easy to apply and although it’s long-lasting it can be removed easily with water and without leaving any residue. If you’re after a matte or more natural finish then you can also use Styling dust to shape your hair. It’ll give you added volume, even on fine hair, without any stickiness. It also creates the sensation of thicker, more abundant hair. You have to try it! If, on the other hand, you’re looking for a wet-gel effect (which is right on trend now) Fusion gel can be your firmest friend. Its texture will give you that wet look you’re hoping for and can be worked into the hair just like a wax, but once dry gives you a gel effect finish. So now you know which men’s hairstyle is top of the trends right now, so it’s time to book an appointment with your barber!
