How often should you wash your hair

We bet you’ve had this discussion a thousand times with your girlfriends. It’s the million dollar question: how often do you wash your hair? The answer; follows. It’s a subject of debate. We bet you’ve talked about it with friends a thousand times and often not come to any conclusion. How often should we wash our hair? You’ll have heard everything; that you should wash every day or it’ll get greasy, that every other day is better and even girls who’ll tell you that they can go 3 days no problem. There’s no written rule about how often you should wash. Everybody has their own method and hair type, factors which all influence how often you should wash. There are, however, a series of basic guidelines which can help shed some light on the question. There are certain urban legends surrounding this issue. The most famous is the one which says that washing everyday produces more oiliness. Relax! It’s not true. The quantity of oils produced by our scalp is determined by our hormones, not by how often we wash, so if you need to wash your hair everyday then go ahead. You should, however, make sure you use the right products to suit your hair type. Washing your hair everyday with unsuitable products can cause a scalp imbalance and disrupt the skin’s natural pH, eliminating the “acid mantle”, its natural protection, and producing alterations like flaking (dandruff) or seborrhea. However, if you notice your hair seems especially oil and you can’t wait to wash, you can always use a dry hair shampoo. This will allow you to leave more time between washing and, also help to give the your hair added volume and texture. Remember though that the function of this hair isn’t to wash, or clean but rather to eliminate oily shine and serve as a temporary shortcut.    Although it depends on each person, ideally hair should be washed about three time a week and shouldn’t be left more than five days without washing. Remember that shampoo acts as a cleanser, eliminating oil and dirt, while a conditioner helps to keep hair hydrated. It’s also recommendable to use, on a regular basis, a scalp peel to desintoxicate and keep the scalp healthy.
